Open To Learn
Open To is a learning and development project based in Liberia. Mark Taylor, founder of the project, decided to build a school in early 2009 after first visiting the refugee camps of Liberia in 2003.
Mark was overwhelmed by the devastation and lack of support given to people who had been through so much.
In 2011, with building work complete, the school opened. Its 4 classrooms give opportunity, hope and a future to 70 children in the local community. Free education is giving these children the chance of a better life.
The school was officially opened in June 2012 by the Basra District Councillor and the Senset Pro Temp Finley, Mark Taylor and Hoi Ling Chow. By 2014, the school entered its fourth year of running with 3 additional classrooms and a full attendance of 200 children.
In Oct 2013 the UN visited the school and accepted the school into the World Food Programme.
